golf tdi fuel pressure issues?
I've got a friends 03 golf tdi and trying to help find an issue causing lack of power. He had brought it to a mechanic who told him the turbo was bad, which seems unlikely to me. He brought it to me and I checked it for shaft play, boost leaks and oil in intake lines and everything seems fine. seems like the vane controller and boost solonoid are also functioning fine.

So here is the problem... lacking power at high rpm's, under wot it will begin to boost and as the rpm's increase boost ceases and so does power. it is bad enough that on the highway it is difficult to maintain 70 mph on hills. There is no chech engine light, and no obd codes.

so far everything seems healthy, but I'm thinking low fuel pressure may be the problem, it has no transfer pump, just the one on the engine and being direct injected I have no way to test the fuel pressure. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced place or person with the equipment to scan for fuel pressure? Any help would be appreciated.

Intake is probably clogged.

Yes, mine did exactly what you are describing when the intake was clogging. If the car still has the EGR in place and active and the intake has never been cleaned, odds are it has this issue, especially if the car has over 60-70k on it. It's about a 2-3 hour job the first time.
