Need more info man. You can't just say that, what does she want to do? Is she interested in learning how to use a SLR?

If she's just getting into photography, you could consider earlier DSLR models. The D40 and D40X (I think) were pretty popular amongst amateur photographers. I held on to my D40 for almost 3 years before 'needing' to move up. I was able to produce excellent photos with the D40 and kit lens. They should be pretty affordable nowadays. Just a thought. I don't keep up on this stuff, so I'm not even familiar with the newer Nikon bodies.

Like I said, I'm not up to date on this stuff, but I would imagine a D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens should be obtainable for $300-$350 nowadays..

I've done plenty of work with this setup and have received numerous compliments. I'm not a professional photographer either. I can honestly say, the D40 and its kit lens are a pretty great combo for the amateur photographer. The lens feels like a cheap piece of shit, but it's pretty sharp.

I know they are good cameras I kinda want one. The pic taken in my sig was with a D40. Looks better when the picture is bigger though lol

The D40 is very adequate. I was on the verge of buying a D300 and all pro-glass in the past, then I realized it was a waste..

99% of what I shoot now is with a fucking D80, a simple flashgun, 2 filters, the aforementioned kit lens, and a prime. It's never let me down either. I've traveled the world with this setup and it's worked out really well for me..
