Cadillac DTS
School me on the DTS. I've done lots of research and can't seem to find a reason not to buy one. The north star seems to burn oil around 150k but also seems good to go before that. The FWD tranny seems to hold the power very well.
I believe this is the boat I picked out to replace the jeep and be a sweet baby hauler that will give us the opportunity to carry atleast 6 dead bodies in the trunk if we ever find the need (and carry a ton of baby stuff, pack&play, stroller . . etc . . .

I drive many cars on a daily basis and those don't hold up well. You'd be much better off with a ford panther platform car.

Only problem with the northstars are the headgaskets. They are a pain to change and you have to install the timeserts threads. Other than that I haven't seen any problems out of them

I do valet and I park almost anything you could think of. Although I typically don't drive them very far it's obvious the dts just isn't very sturdy. In almost every one I drive the motor mounts feel like jell-o. I know they aren't built to handle but again once they get some miles they're almost dangerous. I don't think they are the worst thing on the road but your money would be better spent with something else.

The newer Northstars are a lot better about having any main issues. (DTS vs the deville) DTS=2005+, "deville" is any year before that. I'd reccomend getting an '05 or newer.
The main problem would almost always be the head bolts pulling and and causing the headgaskets to blow. Around $1900 to get that fixed. It's either that or the block halves will leak oil like crazy. Which is not as bad to fix as the heads but your still pulling the motor to do it. Either fix is not really that bad to do your self.
You could also get lucky and have some issues with the tranny solenoids but it's kinda few and far between. As long as you take care of them and use premimum gas in them they usually run fine. Oh and don't be afraid to "step on it" every once in a while just to blow it out. They are slightly notorious for developing a carbon knock if not "cleaned out" every now and again.
I worked at a Cadillac dealer for 4 years.

Make sure its after model year 2003 or you'll be replacing transmissions every 25 thousand miles.

Buy/lease as new as you can afford and your gonna have a nice car on your hands. I've owned/maintained several caddies. Goodluck shopping around, shouldn't be a problem finding one with low miles.
