This is a common problem with spec-v's ... The originals are plastic pieces of crap the will go bad sooner or later. Nissan now has replaced the product with a metal CPS, I picked them up from Falhaber for $10 each, I believe. Since then, I've had no problems. The motor will run strangely when the sensor goes out, I remember mine studdering rather badly. I'm not sure why you've had to replace it three times, however. The tachometer has no relation to the CPS', sounds like you may have a wiring issue as well.
Have you changed both?
One is on the head just below the valve cover, and the other is around the backside of the motor (firewall side).
