the guage goes wacky sometimes...more often then not.

VSS code shows up as well, from time to time. i've done a bit of research and will go this route to begin with and see where it gets me.

most likely it's the VSS. bad connection, either the part of the plug that keeps it connected is broke, and it's bouncing around causing loss of connection, one of the wires is loose, or the vss itself is actually damaged. plus it's easier to replace than the cluster. i MIGHT have one you can try out

no worries buddy. is there tranny specific VSS's? i know there are between the DOHC and SOHC stuff, but within SOHC trans, i am not sure. i would think all the sensors are the same (within the SOHC world), its just the ring on the internal gears/final drive that make the readings differ from tranny to tranny.

I am having the same issue with my 95 EX, but I am not throwing the VSS code, and I cleaned the connection.

I think you can use a B series VSS, but you want to double check.

I believe mine is the cluster because if I push in the trip odometer reset, it usually shows the current speed.

It's goofy as shit.

Brett, check the connection first like robby said. Even after i cleaned up the connector on mine it still didn't work, had to replace the connector all together. I'm pretty sure i have another connector in my toolbox at work. Also have a VSS. Let me know if you need either.
