This may be a really dumb question, but do these boxes sound better than regular boxes? Like are they special to a certain set up to make it sound better?
That all depends on what you consider a normal box. If you mean just a standard rinky-dink enclosure that you see in stacks at best buy/car audio then I'd say yes, a custom designed and built enclosure can give you a big jump in performance and allow you to tailor it's performance to meet your needs and vehicle.
As for some mass-produced boxes that are more custom tailored to a specific line of woofer, they honestly can be pretty decent in design and quality but for the cost I'd definitely do a custom designed and built enclosure any day of the week unless you just have the extra $ and like their enclosure the way it is. With a premade enclosure you always have to tailor your layout according to the enclosure...sometimes it works but sometimes youre sacrificing (or even worse, sacrificing and you don't even know it).
The enclosure is by-far the most important piece of the puzzle in any setup, no use having really nice equipment if you throw it into a poorly designed box made out of particle board :/

Ah ok, makes sense. I may get with ya then, next year I plan on doing new speakers in my xterra and adding a single 10 or 12. Nothing fancy, but not junk either. The boxes look pretty good btw
