2002 Jetta 1.8t
Ok my buddy has a 1.8T that he started to build. But I think he got frustrated cause it didnt seem like it was geting faster.
So what would he have to do to get a good roll racing car, he dosnt care for dig/track.

Here is what he has so far.
Intake
Down pipe
Mid pipe
Cat-back
* he has a manual boost ontroller (EBAY FTL) but I think its hooked up wrong cause he was spiking 10psi befor he hooked it up and is now spiking... 10psi.

So I was thinking maybe go with a FMIC & a tune...

what else could he do for reasonalby cheap... like $1,000 - $2,000 range.
Thanks
Rhett

I dont know about that we got a pretty wicked GTI in columbus.

But my buds is def slow... But I remember Back when he first got it when he was in High school we would win in a race against any thing that wasnt a GSR, EVO, STI or Turbo'd and we would win... We thought we were the shit lol, we didnt race anything with a V8, He would have got his doors sucked off.

I pulled a couple Evo's/STI's (stockish of course) in my 1.8T.... but I was maxed on the stock turbo and they were just beginning lol...

yep, the only way that thing is ever going to be decently quick is if he ditches the stock turbo.....

even then, he should just be happy with a "nice car". lol When I first bought mine I immediately chipped it, turbo back, etc etc... then i realized.. damn.. this thing is still slow as fock. Compared to the SS it was dumb, so i just stopped and settled with it being a great economical daily driver. I didnt feel like doing a big turbo swap or anything else that would have been needed for REAL power.

Good luck with it and enjoy it.

Yeah unless you have crazy amount of cash and someone who actually is reasonable on prices and knows what there doing... being fast and getting out of 14's is a problem.

not raelly....do a t3super60 kit on it...my buddy pieced one together on his GLI...he made 324, and 357ft lbs and you can piece that kit together for under 3 grand.

the only concern is the rods...

the whole motor is built pretty well, can handle damn near 700hp except the rods, if you go over 300ftlbs you are chancing snapping one.

The problem with the 1.8t he he has, is he is starting off with what...150hp motor? The 03 came out with the more powerful 1.8t and VR6 motor. There are plenty of ways to make it faster - I would really suggest chipping it. My brother's 03 GTI has the 1.8t (albeit the more powerful one) and its got the APR reflash. Feels pretty quick. I don't think Dubbs are meant to be drag racers - sure you can do it - but they are more fun in the twisties.

and yeah, i realize this thread is old.

The problem with replying to a 4 month old thread is that nobody gives a fuck.

first, 02 they upped the power but the only difference was programming (boost/timing).... The VR's are a waste to mod unless you plan on spray/boost.... 1.8T will always be faster if you just plan on adding a few bolt ons.... Also thread digging is gay....
