There's a car I'd love to own though... Hot damn! It looks great, but 20k miles- thats a shame! those cars are made to be driven!

If I ever get my plates the mileage will definitely be piled on, I'm driving the hell out of it!

hmmm, nah, I'll still let you sit in the vette though!

So, update on the collector plates, I was frustrated with waiting for my plates to show up so I called the colombus bmv and spoke to the guy in charge of collector plates. The vette made it no problem as it was on their list of collectible vehicles, however the conquest and cbx did not. In order to qualify them there are a few things to do, either show that there were less than 8,000 produced for that model year, or show at least 5,000 dollars in custom work backed up with reciepts. Production numbers must be from the manufacturer with their letterhead on the document. He said if you've done the work yourself you need to get the vehicle appraised and in the appraisal cite specifically what makes it rare and valuable and exactly what type of 'custom' work has been done and the approximate value of that work.

Luckily for me the cbx qualifies by production number, I just need to get verification from honda. As for the conquest its appraisal time, with the engine swap and paint work I'm hoping to make it work.

I dont know why the 2nd gen camaros are fair game... I guess just because they are published in that book as specifically a collectors vehicle?

Good luck getting the other two squared away- How long did it take for the vette, about a month?

... Wait... That means teh 88 fieros would be fair game. Only 5170 formulas were made and 6250 GTs?

Now the wheel is turnin'... haha. But not worth it on those cars!

I'm not sure if the 2g camaro's are or not, should have asked while I had the guy on the phone. With the vette this has taken about 3 weeks so far, he said they are backed up in that department right now so it will probably still be a few more weeks, still no way to get temp tags either. In the meantime the car is sitting in storage ready to go, its killin me that I can't drive it!

Call your insurance company, its worth it on any car you can get to qualify, you wouldn't believe how much cheaper it is to insure a car with collectible or historic plates. Full coverage on the vette valuing it at 25k is less than 20 dollars a month with state farm! this is why I'm trying to get everything but my truck to be collectible. For the Fiero's though they may not make it production number wise as they may consider all fiero's made in 88, not specific models, but I'm not sure. Keep your reciepts, if you swap the motor and build the suspension for autocross that may make the 5k mark right there. I called the columbus bmv and talked to someone in that department, he was actually very helpful.

I already know it does! Just seemed weird given the production requirements and whatnot.

I'm just running a separate set of old tags. I wish I would have gotten a temp tag but they told me "you'll get a temp tag when you apply for the plates"- Hogwash. Stupid title bureau. I just carry the application I sent in for the collectors plates with me and presume if I get pulled over I'll show them that I just bought the car and I'm waiting for plates and hope they don't impound it!

Insurance said no difference with collector plates, so I would need a few cars to justify looking for another insurance... but its $125 a year for the camaro so how much cheaper can it get??

I'm about ready to throw some other plates on it, I just know the chances of me speeding are steep, hard to just drive this car! Its funny that your insurance isn't any better, it was a huge difference for me, are you getting full coverage on yours?

They told me the plates don't matter... Collector, historical, regular... All that matters is miles driven, not the type of plate. Yes it's full coverage.
