Hell no.

So, in reality, you sound like one of those infamous RX8 nut-huggers who claim that they have the best handling cars on the planet I guess in an effort to make up for it's entire lack of an engine.
Just to play devil's advocate, my Miata was by far the most fun car I've ever owned yet the slowest of them all. That being said, I would never purchase an embarrassing V6 muscle car, especially one with a 4.0 210 horsepower boat anchor.

I think it will do very well in a class where your competition will be the Solstice, Miata, 370Z, RX8 ect.... You should start bringing it out to the local events.

Also to play devil's advocate; the same could be said about your GTO. Should'a bought an LS2 GTO/Vette/Fbody ect... At the end of the day it's your car, not mine, so who gives a fuck if you're happy with it. Even though they weren't V8s, he has had several quick cars and wanted something different. Is the FR-S a quick drag racing car? Absolutely not, but it has more than enough power to be a competitive autocross/track day car if that's his end goal.

Perhaps you have a point. Maybe I could spend the next paragraph telling you how I got the deal of the century on my stupid 4,000 pound Australian car, or how I chose it over an F-body because of better build quality, retarded high F-body prices or something else you wouldn't care about. . . but I won't.

Maybe this guy got a great deal on his Scion (which I would hope he's not paying the 30 grand that some dealers marked them up to), or maybe it's a fun little car like a Miata. At the end of the day however, you are correct in saying that he's happy with his decision for some reason, and it's his money. Like I have no reason to justify my car purchase to you, he has no reason to justify his purchase to me.

I never asked him to. However, allow me to reiterate my original statement LOLing at the claim that a FR-S "handled" better than a 5.0:

Tell me more about his this point is invalid:

[Motor Trend]

2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0
LATERAL ACCELERATION: 0.96 g (avg)
MT FIGURE EIGHT: 24.9 sec @ 0.76 g (avg)

2013 Subaru BRZ
LATERAL ACCELERATION: 0.90 g (avg)
MT FIGURE EIGHT: 26.2 sec @ 0.68 g (avg)

Thus, I chuckled when he said that. He literally sounds like Rx8 owners that claim their cars are the best handling cars ever made, when no data proves that. That is all.

I don't think it's wrong at all to buy a car that you have the specific desire to run as a handling car on auto cross and SCCA events, even if it's not a real fast one. But why choose a car brand that has no real knowledge of how it will respond to anything, in hopes of voiding the warranty pretty soon.

Now I want to see one of these run a 5.0 on a road track to see which will do better, so it can be proven who backs up the "this is better" claim.

Just so we're clear, I'm not bashing your car or your decision to get it. Just pointing out that you can always make an argument from the other side of the fence.

Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but in autocrossing the top 7 C stock(FR-S's class) placers from this past year's SCCA autox nationals were quicker than the top F stock(5.0's class) placer. One of those cars was an RX8 as well. While most people around here aren't fans of autox, I think we could both agree that it is very heavily based on how well a car handles. I understand that the numbers are in the 5.0's favor, but we all know how well magazine bench racing works out. There is more to a car than just magazine stats and measured mechanical grip. Balance, weight transer, and perceived feedback all come into play. Now my disclaimer to this is that I have no idea how the FR-S will fall among the ranks of the top C stock vehicles since it's a new entry.

Given the significant power advantage I don't think the FR-S would have anything for the 5.0 on all but the tightest roadcourses.

That's just the former ricers in them coming out . I'm sure there will be power adder packages and even more powerful models to roll off the showroom floor in the near future. If I was buying a car for autocross/road courses I would choose a car that has the handling where I want it then build on the other things from there...

my remark was sarcastic. I do not think there is a track otu there that the fr-s can win on against a 5.0, purely because of the power difference. This car is substantially slower than the 5.0, and has absolutely no torque whatsoever. However, the feel of the car, when taking it through various backroads, and on other tight courses, has made this car very enjoyable to drive. Will it ever be faster than an lsx equipped car in a straight line? Probably not, unless that car is on jackstands. Does it really matter to me? Not really. If it did, I wouldn't have bought the car in the first place.

Facepalm. I was merely explaining why I chuckled. You bought what you wanted because it's your money, and all the power to you.

Dude I think they are obviously cool little cars, but once again I just have a problem with the damn engines they gave them. They should have 50-60 more horsepower. Period. Why is that so hard to understand? It's disappointment especially when I started seeing data saying they were just as as fast as Honda Odysseys and had Toyota Prius tires.

For 28 grand, they can keep it, but it'll definitely make a cool DD in the future when they are used.
