does a LS oil pump use a gasket
I put the cam in my 5.3. There was no gasket between the oil pump and the block. Do you all use a gasket or keep it this way? Also, I assume I can go to autozone and get the timing cover and water pump gaskets?

I just looked at Advance for those gaskets for a 2003 Tahoe 5.3L (mine) and they were not listed in gaskets but when I pulled up water pump the gasket is now there $10.99

Edit: I see the Fel-Pro front cover kit comes with water pump gaskets as well, $36

Edit #2: Order On-line and enter MY12 and get 15% off that part. You can still pick it up at the store if they have it in stock

Very thin layer of permatex black adhesive, its a machined surface but better safe than sorry.

I only remember the Oring at the oil pickup tube, I don't remember anything else for the oil pump to block. And use GM gaskets wherever you can, they are very high quality. I got all mine from Texas Speed.

$61.99 and it comes with the GM crank bolt

Hell I'd buy the Fel-Pro kit for $31.60 (15% off) and then get the ARP balance bolt for $28 and still be cheaper than the GM kit.

No gasket pump to block, however there are two different orings for the pickup tube.

Oh try going to get a powerglide pan gasket. Back in the late 90s you would expect any seasoned parts person to know where to get that in the back or a way to look it up at least. One particular time I did go ahead and say for a 1988 Chrysler Conquest, with a 91 Mitsubishi 4g63, and a Chevy 12 Bolt rear end and a chevy powerglide hahah.

To their defense I can never remember what they came in originally. But once upon a time you could say powerglide and they would know what you were talking about.

Save yourself a lot of headache...buy GM gaskets...seriously, for nearly everything.
Timing, WP, VAlve Cover, oil pan, rear cover, intake and exhaust. GM is about the best of all of these IMO and they are almost all reusable.

The Fel-Pro gaskets are the same as GM with the rubber seals around the passages and I've had great results using nothing but Fel-Pro gaskets even on LS motors.

I had a 67 Camaro that had a modified early 70's G-Body rear end in it and I had a hell of a time finding axel bearings for that as I didn't know what the housing came out of at first. Had to pull the axel out and go to Ky Motors and find a match and then found out what the applications was. They pressed the bearings onto the axel for me as well.

Per GM's service manual for these LS based engines, all gaskets on the engine are reusable, except for the head gaskets.

On a side note, we have reused the LS9 head gaskets 3 times now on my buddies 5.3L with no issues at all & he's in the 600whp/630wtq area too. LOL!
