steering question
So my rack and pinion is being replaced, and there's been some issues with parts. Most of the problems are fixed, but one remains...

The steering rack itself is in...an oreiley part...ratio and fit is good. Problem is,with the tie rods inthe whole set up is 1" too long. They are talking to manufacturer to see if the tierod part numbers are "right for that rack unit". If not the mechanic is concerned that if he doesn't cut them just right, (1/2") from either side it could mess up pinion angle? Is this a real concern or should unjust have them go ahead and cut them?

they can be cut down, is the rack itself longer or just the inner tierods? Or have OR supply the correct inner tie rods for the application

Like badcoupe said, they can be cut down. We go through O'reillys for all our mechanical shit at the shop, never had a problem.

If the rack is right and the tie rods are too long, then you have the wrong tie rods.

While this is a true statement, I should have qualified this post with, since this car has been in the family, we have found that very few parts even in the late 80's early 90's the "correct part numbers" even from the dealers, have very rarely been the "right part" lol.

This car is a mess and been a "pita" all the time
