ford probe gt timing belt
A friend said his probe gt v6 timing belt broke and needs swapped. I know 0 about these. Would the motor be ok? Anyone recommended a good site to read up on these motors.

if the belt breaks bad things happen i believe haha. my cousin has a klze turbo protege speed and had replaced the motor because of a over rev. he might help with a swap if it needs it

after a quick look on mitchell, it could be either interference or non. Depends on the year and if its a Ford or Mazda v6.

In my experience, they are all non-interference.

all KL03 engines from 1993-1997 are the same. www.probetalk.com is your major probe message forum.
I've done quite a few timing belts on these back in the day. They aren't exactly fun

Mitchell and gates/Napa online said otherwise, but you could be right. Napa specifies parts for interference or non motors. But, you might be correct...

I'm just saying that i have never seen an interference KL03 or KLZE that wasn't modified internally in some way. Search probetalk or even google for real life stories of it happening and i doubt you'll find any.
Hell, i even had a timing belt shred to pieces on a KLZE swap in a probe, and the engine was still fine.

Not saying I dont believe you, just posting where I got my info from. I'd run a compression test on it and throw a new belt on too if it were mine

These suck balls. It is basically easier to pull the motor and do it. Granted, it can be done in the car, it's just a bitch with little room to work. Make sure he gets a new tensioner (obviously), as they are hydraulic, and worthless.
Motor should be non-interference, as said before. Hell I broke a camshaft in half, and broke a belt, and it didnt tear anything up.

Ive snapped 2 KL belts... A 93 and a 96. FIX THE BELT AND GO! Ty is right. He is also well respected in the Probe community just as he is here and in the MR2 community.
Its a non-interference engine. I promise you. My own mother broke one and knew better...
