Cobalt SS guys in here please.
Hey guys the GF and I are going to be buying a Cobalt SS here in about 4-5 months. We're looking at used SS/SC's and 2011 SS/TC's. She doesn't really care which one we get, the only thing she cares about is that the car is red with red and black interior. I have a few questions for you guys that are in the know with these cars.

1.Can I get a 2011 with the red and black interior? She's been the one looking online and said she hasn't seen any with that combo yet.

2.Is the extra money for the SS/TC worth it? It will be driven everyday by one of us, and taken to the strip and probably try out auto-x with it.

3.The only mods I will do with the car will be a catback and tune. Will the car still be as easy to drive as stock? and is there quiet catbacks so it doesn't sound like an srt4? lol

4.How bad is wheelhop/torque steer? She's a really safe driver most of the time, but her G6 GT is the fastest thing she's ever driven.

This will be our first car bought together and will be in my name, but most likely she will drive it majority of the time. This will also be the car she will learn how to drive a 5 speed with, so I hope they're easy to drive with a strong factory clutch Lol. Also, before you post and say ask on cobalt.com or w/e the hell, I want an unbiased opinions, I don't feel I will get that on a cobalt based site.

Thanks in advance and sincerely,
A guy making an idiot decision to go into debt for a girl.

Yes, the TC is worth it. I'm not sure if they are offerring 2011 SS/TCs since the cobalt will be fazed out for the upcoming cruze. They are a bit louder with a catback and intake but not srt-4 loud. With intake/exhaust/tune most guys are running around 300whp. Most dyno 240whp stock. They handle amazing for a FWD car and wheel hop is not too bad much better with the TC than the SC cars.

Only input I have is go buy a $100 hunk of crap or go test drive something from a stealership to teach her on.

There is no 2011 Cobalt's, only 2010's.

I'd say go for the turbo. Considering there will still be factory warranty on it, the suspension is better, the car will make far more power with less into it.

Pm me if you want more info or to meet up some time. I've had mine for 2 years now, and I know just about everything that's going to go wrong with the car.

Why? It'll be in my name and if we break up I can afford the car on my own. But I understand what you're saying, I wouldn't be doing this if she didn't want one.

Thanks spoony, I'm not sure if they make a 2011 either, I guess I just meant a new one. 300whp??!! damn, maybe I should buy her a base model and get one of these for myself! lol That's badass with those mods.

I was thinking that too, but I told her when we go buy it she can watch me for a couple hours then we can let her at it in a the school parking lot or something.

The no lift shift thing has me excited as fuck lol Is there any point in doing suspension work? I mean, if they handle like everyone says should and don't wheel hop bad I'll probably just leave it as is if there's no big gain to be made.

Well from having driven alot of GM sport compacts and having a lot of friends that own them, the SS/TC would be the only car worth the money, the SS/SC is maybe... 3 tenths faster than an ecotec cavalier/base model cobalt.

The handling in the cobalts has improved quite a bit over the previous models, I would say for your gf, it would be a great car.. also i doubt it will over power her too much if she isnt used to boosted cars.. they are kinda heavy.. but the ecotecs are great on fuel and nearly indestructible in stock/bolt-on fashion.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot man! I'll hit you up when we get our finances straightened up enough to only owe about 8-10k with trade in(her G6). I really aprreciate it man. In your honest opinion, does the car do everything you want it to? Like is there any downfalls to it? Did it meet your expectations? This will be my first brand new car and I want to make sure it's everything I hear it is.

You are fucking retarded.

IF you have driven either SS model, you would realize the power band is ENTIRELY different. Also, a base ecotec has 155hp, 50 less hp than an SC and far less tq. Most SC cobalts dyno around 205whp though STOCK and an ecotec 2.2L I4 dynos roughly 125 to 135whp. A stock SC Colbalt traps around 97mph and will ET around 14.4 to 14.6 stock. I have seen several with a trans bushings and a torque dampener run 14.0 @100mph. The TC is totally different animal. Stock they can trap 103-105 and many are getting 108-111 traps with basic bolt ons and tune.

They also are NOT indestructible. Most SS/SC's connecting rods are good to 300whp. Not so "indestructible" their transmissions also aren't awesome after this power level.

In closing, you are a ricer faggot.

Good day.

I love my car, but that's not how it's always been. I've had issues with it.

The TC's are better, but not perfect. Make sure you get one thats still under warranty, you'll end up using it.

What other cars are you looking at/comparing against the Cobalt?

I would wait til the cruze comes out and buy her one of those. They aren't fast but SUPER nice and they totally revamped the interior. They have a 1.6l Turbo in those. (maybe a 1.4? I can't remember)

I'm buying a brand new one if I buy a TC, so warranty is a for sure. And what in your opinion what would does the car needed to make it the perfect daily fun car? Sorry for all the dumb questions, but i've never bought a brand new car and I want it to be "perfect" or as close as it can possibly be.

And the only thing she's really remotely interested in besides the cobalt is a used G6 GTP 6 speed.

You want G85 (LSD) if you're going to Auto-x and have fun with it. I don't have it, wish I did.

Those cars LOVE simple shit. A tune picks up quite a bit, as well as charge pipes, intake, downpipe, catback. There are people making plenty of power on the stock turbo. Check out either cobaltss.net, or gmsportcompact.net. Those are the two I frequent.

Also, here's the stock LNF times.
