Ford EcoBoost fun facts.
Long story short, I was looking at stuff on Wiki and ended up reading a few things about the EcoBoost platform that Ford is going to be using.

Looks like a few neat engines are coming and some already in production.

Copied from Wiki.

EcoBoost V6

The first engine in the EcoBoost series is the V6. The engine first appeared in the 2007 Lincoln MKR Concept under the name TwinForce.[8] The engine was designed to deliver power and torque output equivalent to a typical 6.0 L or larger displacement V8 while achieving at least 15% better fuel efficiency and reduced greenhouse emissions compared to the V8 engine. In the MKR the concept TwinForce engine was rated 415 hp (309 kW) and 400 lb·ft (542 N·m) of torque, as well as run on E85 fuel.[9] When the same prototype engine reappeared in the Lincoln MKT concept in 2008 North American International Auto Show, the name was changed to EcoBoost. Official EcoBoost production began on May 19, 2009 at Ford's Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1.

The production engines use the Duratec 35 V6 engine block. The fuel charging and delivery systems can attain high fuel pressures of up to 2150 PSI, necessary for efficient operation of the direct fuel injection system. It uses 2 Garrett GT15 turbochargers which can spin at up to 170,000 rpm and provide 12 PSI of boost. The engine can consume up to 25% more air over the naturally-aspirated counterpart. Through the use of direct injection, the engine needs only regular-grade gasoline to run, though premium fuel is recommended. The EcoBoost V6 was first available as an engine option for 2010 Lincoln MKS, followed by 2010 Ford Flex, 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and 2010 Lincoln MKT.[10]

The fuel charging and delivery systems were co-developed with Robert Bosch GmbH.[11]

Ford also built an experimental 3.5 L GTDI EcoBoost engine modified with E85 direct injection and gasoline port fuel injection, which achieved a BMEP score of 305 psi (27 bar), which translates to approximately 553 pound-feet (750 N·m) of torque and 316 horsepower (236 kW)@3000rpm (flat torque curve from 1500-3000rpm).[12]
[edit] Applications

* 365 hp (272 kW) @5500 rpm, 350 lb·ft (475 N·m) @1500-5250 rpm
o 2010- Ford Taurus SHO
* 355 hp (265 kW) @5700 rpm, 350 lb·ft (475 N·m) @1500-5250 rpm
o 2010- Ford Flex
o 2010- Lincoln MKS
o 2010- Lincoln MKT
o 2011- Ford F-150[13] [14]

[edit] EcoBoost I-4

Ford has so far unveiled three different four-cylinder engines equipped with EcoBoost technology in concept and production vehicles. Like the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6, all the engines are turbocharged and direct injected. The production engine family was officially announced in 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.[15]
[edit] 2.0 L EcoBoost I-4

A 2.0 L version was first seen in the 2008 Ford Explorer America Concept.[1] The engine was rated at 275 bhp (205 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m).

It is the first EcoBoost engine to include Twin-Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT), with advertised 10-20% better fuel economy while maintaining the performance of 3.0 liter V6 engines. Power will be at least 230 bhp (170 kW), and torque will be at least 240 lb·ft (325 N·m). Ford announced the production would begin in 2010.[16][17]
[edit] Applications

* 203 PS - 200 hp (149 kW) @5500 rpm, 221 lb·ft (300 N·m) @1750-4500 rpm[18]
o 2010- Ford S-MAX
o 2010- Ford Galaxy
o 2010- Ford Mondeo
* 2011- Ford Falcon
* 2011- Ford Edge

[edit] 1.6 L EcoBoost I-4

A 1.6 L version was first unveiled in the 2009 Lincoln C Concept. The engine is rated at 180 bhp (130 kW) and 180 lb·ft (244 N·m).[19]

Another 1.6L version of 150 bhp (110 kW) is to go on selling in European market, having lower consumption and CO2.[20]
[edit] Applications

* 2010- Ford C-MAX
* 2010- Ford Focus
* 2010- Volvo S60

[edit] EcoBoost V8
[edit] Bobcat - Dual Fuel Engine

Codenamed Bobcat, it is an expansion to the EcoBoost family. It is based on a 5.0 L V8 engine block, but it uses E85 direct injection and gasoline port injection. The engine was co-developed with Ethanol Boosting Systems, LLC of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Bobcat project was unveiled in Department of Energy and Society of Automotive Engineers in April 2009.[12]
[edit] 5.0 L 'Road Runner'

Codenamed Road Runner, it is rumored to be a 500 hp engine to be used in the 2012 Shelby GT500 and F-150 Harley-Davidson edition pickups.[21] The "Road Runner" is not considered a part of the EcoBoost family as it does not feature direct injection.

Twin turbo F-150's and GT500's in the future

True, the shelby sounds cool though. I wonder how strong the new 5.0 is? Prob easy upgrades being turbo'd.

The new 5.0L thats supposed to be in the 2011 (or 2012?) Mustang GT is a 4 cam naturally aspirated engine that produces 412hp / 390ftlb. Its 'code named' Coyote. It is NOT direct injected, its standard port injection, but they've created the engine with direct injection in mind. I wonder how much power they can get out of a 5.0L at 13:1 compression ratio on E85 or gasoline. Not to mention they now have control of each of the 4 cams, being able to change lobe separation and other valve timing events based on engine load/rpm, etc.

Its about time we see the benefits of these modular motors... they've been promising so much from them since 1996 and now I guess we're finally getting to see what they had in mind ;)

the stock 2011 5.0 motors are dynoing ~375whp SAE. Tune+bolt ons over 400. It's a 5L bottom end with a better head than GT500s with variable cam timing to adjust overlap. mmm. Going to be *insane* for forced induction. It's like a V8 K-series engine! If I had 30 grand to throw at a new car, I'd get one.

The EcoBoost are pretty cool. I like the direction Ford is going, although tuning the new generation of engines is headache material in a serious way. They're so much more complicated than any port-injected engine management system I've ever seen.
