New E85 Location
Thought this might be useful for some people on here, but the Thorntons on Tylersville road right off of the exit when headed towards mason now has E85. I checked the E85 websites and it's not listed yet. Seems like a good spot to fill up on the way up to Kilkare. Timmy, I know you planned on running E85 so this'll be real convenient for you.

I would likely run e85 in my STI if there were more stations in NKY

I've lived at that exit for 4 years and they've had it the whole time I've owned my flexfuel vehicle which was 2011!

Whats the kick on E85? whats the value in using it, just going for the octane levels?

Makes sense. 100 or 110 octane race fuel is pretty expensive. Thanks.

Just remember your fuel system needs to be sized appropriately. Estimate about 30% more fuel needed to make the same power as on gasoline based fuels.

If he's referring to his flex fuel vehicle he mentioned, it should be able to run on either with no adjustments.

I doubt he's running 100 or 110 octane race fuel in his flex fuel vehicle, Corky.

I ran E85 once for shits and giggles in my truck when I got it new. The crappy fuel economy kills its value in flexfuel, and while I know a lot of people were curious a few years back, it doesn't add up mileage wise to actually use it, so I was just curious why people were looking for it and what they actually use it for. The octane certainly makes sense.

Back when I was in college for engineering though I built an ethanol motorcycle and wrote up a gig on necessary adjustments for performance and fuel economy. I increased the compression to 12.5:1 from 10:1 by shaving the head and retarding the ignition, replaced the tubing and gaskets to nylon and polypropylene, and increased the fuel jet size by about 25%. It netted a 10% power gain and a slightly lower fuel economy. I guess I'm still intrigued by ethanol even though it clearly has no potential as a legitimate fuel for typical street vehicles unless membrane distillation becomes more commonplace, but I'm certainly familiar with the octane benefits.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop.
