I'd find the cheapest version and drop it in there. Get the car running and have some fun. While that is going on I'd have another long block project for big HP going on on the side.

i would prefer to keep an aluminum block unless the cost factor is way too good to pass up. 90 pounds isnt a whole lot, but weight adds up.

if i can get a low miles engine that would be nice, so i wont have to rebuild, but im not completely against rebuilding.

i guess to go much further i will have to look into costs of different setups.

im also not looking for a high hp, gotta run 9 seconds car. if it gets to the point where im breaking axles and diffs, its time to back it off.

also, ls1 loves spray yeah?

also, to give an idea of cost...

to continue with my current engine setup id be looking at spending 1k on a clutch, 1200 on a trans adapter kit, and 500-800 on an intercooler setup, and probably another 500 for more tuning.

so, thats kinda retarded. if you figure 3200 of would be spent money, plus money ill get selling a lot of the high dollar parts i have for my current setup, 3k min, 6k maybe, idk. i think i can get a lot of lsx love for 6-8k.

aside from the engine dropout, a premade swap kit is 1700, headers are about 700 to fit my chassis(but im sure i can use factory manifolds if i want), plus some extra for other things like power steering line, and swaybar relocation.

its money, but im not starting with nothing. all my ricer crap will sell for a decent chunk of change.

Low mileage LS2/T56/ECU and wiring harness go for about $6000.

i dont see how you HAVE to buy all this stuff... i mean if you bought the same 400 dollar clutch that lasted you 6 years and put your car back together you still have a car that makes over 400 hp and its pretty reliable.

seems like your going to go through a lot of work to have less power. and im saying this as a friend not an LSX hater

You can get a complete LS1 dropout (engine+harness/ecm+t56) for between $4-6k, LS2 dropout for between $5-7k, and LS3 dropout is going to cost you over $8k

You can get an iron block motor for $600-1k, and get some 243 heads (ls6/ls2 factory) $700-800. A t56 alone will cost around $1500 (may be able to get ECU with it for that)

You can also get aluminum short block (5.7 or 6.0 (aka ls1/6 or ls2)) for $800-1200, then add on same as above.

Bottom line, you CAN get an lsx complete build (engine+trans+wiring/ecm) for as low as $3k, but will have to hunt, bargain, and assemble. Can get a good setup for under $5k for sure (again, may have to wait for hte right deals) and make the power you want.

I would have thougth that a complete LS1/T56 combo for low miles would be a lot cheaper than $5k now. I paid $5700 for mine a long time ago. I would have thought $3500 for the dropout would be obtainable for lowish miles.

I didn't know your car was that unreliable? Seems like you've been out running the same setup for years. Parts wear down man. I mean if you're wanting to go through all this swapping business why not just sell the car and buy a vette?

its not really unreliable, but its quirky, and a pain in the ass. lets put it another way, im bored with this big turbo sr nonsense, and i want something that will make me excited about the car again. im not at all interested in owning a corvette, i like my 240, just want to change it up a little. if i said i was going to swap in a vq35 the nissan guys wouldnt have bad things to say. just because its an ls1 people have to cry.
