Fiberglass/bodywork ricers needed
Here's the deal...

The '03 ZX6-R racebike I picked up this weekend has race fairings that need a little work. They've got some cracks/holes in them from the previous owner lowsiding at Mid Ohio.

I've also got a set of OEM ABS street fairings that came with my street bike, dedicated to be switched out for the track. They've had a little fiberglass repair done to them as they were off of a wrecked bike. The difference between race fairings and street fairings (for those that don't know) are mainly two things:
-Hole cutouts for headlights
-Two piece vs. one piece lower fairing or "belly pan" (race fairings are designed to hold oil in case there's a leak or blown engine on the bike. Keeps the track from getting coated in oil)

I can opt for two different routes here....repair the race fairings which have wrinkle red and wrinkle black paint on them (good thing I have a DA to do sanding) or fiberglass over the headlight holes and openings in the bottom of the street lower, creating a belly pan.

Thoughts, opinions, and suggestions on where/what materials to use are welcomed.

I can add pictures of said fairings later for a better idea of what repairs/modifications are needed.

This shit is 2x2 status

Science Abuse is on a distinguished road
Doesn't the repair seem a bit easier than glassing over headlight holes (and making it look shiny)? I'd try the repair first, and save the OE stuff as a plan-B if I screw anything up.

Post up some pics. I think my buddy fixed some cracked plastics he had and then resprayed his bike. I'll check to see what he used/thoughts/how it's held up, ricer.

I did a little reading today and decided to go with some short fiber Bondo Glass. It seems that fiberglass mat/cloth is mainly to repair holes. I don't have any holes larger than 1/4" or so in diameter, so filler should work.

Sanded with the DA:

Mixing up the hardener and Bondo Glass:

Curing for the next layer:

This wrinkle red paint is a bitch to sand, even with 60 grit on the DA. It takes FOREVER. I still have to sand the tank which is in wrinkle black and sand the rest of the lower (pictured above)

What I see happening, if the Bondo Glass cracks (which I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of), I would have to cut out the broken part of the fairings and patch the hole with mat/cloth. Which is essentially what I would be doing for the headlight holes. It doesn't need to be "shiny"...it's a race bike. Shit will get dumped anyway
