APCh8r 12-19-2003, 08:20 PM i am getting some 2g pistons shortly and i was wondering if anyone knew where i could get them installed on my 1g rods and how much it would run me. acurapeery 12-19-2003, 11:41 PM try 513 724 0050 and ask for shaun. tell him corey peery told you to call. he might be able to help you and do some cheap install. 95gsr 12-20-2003, 07:41 PM don't go to trident down in newton they bent a wristpin on my piston last year NOLV4V8 12-20-2003, 07:53 PM you neeed to buy new pistions, using used pistions is a waste of your time. also the motor is going to be very noisy. talk to scot about getting it done if you really want it done. ALso what is the reason for doing this? FST4CYL 12-21-2003, 09:23 PM i have 2g pistons , rods and rings ill sell ya very cheap 93Red2 12-21-2003, 11:31 PM you neeed to buy new pistions, using used pistions is a waste of your time. also the motor is going to be very noisy. talk to scot about getting it done if you really want it done. ALso what is the reason for doing this? I drove a 1g with 2g pistons, and it was very noisy, but then again it also had solid motor mounts and the balance shafts were removed, damn thing was noisy and vibrated a ton YOULOST 12-22-2003, 02:01 AM why would .7 higher compression pistons make the car louder?? did you file down the ends for the wristpin to fit properly?? I dont get it? NOLV4V8 12-22-2003, 02:24 AM why would .7 higher compression pistons make the car louder?? did you file down the ends for the wristpin to fit properly?? I dont get it? its a sloppy setup read all about it over teh dsm forums, ask scot also BoostedITR41 12-22-2003, 03:57 AM my friend has this set up and does have vibration but also has cams in it. the compression will do nothing but help you out, but I would go .25 oversized if you can. that way they can put a new crosshatch in the walls everything can fit RIGHT. JIMI B 12-22-2003, 06:55 AM you neeed to buy new pistions, using used pistions is a waste of your time. also the motor is going to be very noisy. talk to scot about getting it done if you really want it done. ALso what is the reason for doing this? Used pistons are fine, if they are in decent shape. Mic them and make sure the skirts arent collapsed. Any machine shop will be able to r&r pistons and machine them to fit for 1g rods. This isnt something you have to go to a dsm guru for. Also I dont think he asked for input on what/why he should do, just where JIMI B 12-22-2003, 07:01 AM my friend has this set up and does have vibration but also has cams in it. the compression will do nothing but help you out, but I would go .25 oversized if you can. that way they can put a new crosshatch in the walls everything can fit RIGHT. You dont have to oversize, to get the block honed. Depending on how straight the cylinder walls are, you could stay std bore. Even if it is a little loose that just frees up xtra horsepower. The 2 or 3 ive put in the hone, would of honed out standard had there not been other circumstances like chunks of pistons missing, or scuffing, from excessive detonation. 9secondtalon 12-22-2003, 09:59 AM Don't pick a fight Jim. BoostedITR41 12-22-2003, 04:19 PM You dont have to oversize, to get the block honed. Depending on how straight the cylinder walls are, you could stay std bore. Even if it is a little loose that just frees up xtra horsepower. The 2 or 3 ive put in the hone, would of honed out standard had there not been other circumstances like chunks of pistons missing, or scuffing, from excessive detonation. but why not overbore and get the slight difference in displacment. if you are using a huge turbo that can help. if you go with those stupid 16g, 20g set ups it won't matter I am talking about a real mans turbo....lol JIMI B 12-22-2003, 04:35 PM Don't pick a fight Jim. First off it was 5:00 in the morning monday and I had pretty much been awake all weekend. I was a little cranky, but I didnt think it would comeout thru the keyboard. Not picking a fight just stating obvious. The guy asked simple question, the only 2 posts that were the type of answers he was looking for were the first 2. I wouldnt use 2g piston either, but he didnt ask that. And also, I think you know by now that ive never said anything bad about you, and you wont here me, or here of me say anything bad about you. We learned most of our dsm knowledge from the same group of people. If you think I was picking a fight about you, thats not it. I have no reason for that. You are a dsm guru in cincy. I am engine builder/machinist race car builder, who is into dsms, along with many other car companies. I was just wondering what basis rob had for saying dont waste time with used pistons, and if you really want it done, talk to scot. Even you know this, what are you going to do drive to norwalk, hand deliver them to dave or tym, or another machine shop. We arent talking about rocket science here just r&r some pistons. Nothing dsm specific. Rob came to my girlfreinds house to buy something from me a couple of years ago, and Ive talked to him @ the track... seems cool enough in person. But he has made a few posts that flat out werent correct. Like this one... suppose oppinion cant be wrong, but I guess i just wondering how he gained his vast piston knowledge? My favorite is when someone was talking about a 1g spotting, and it was my buddy jeromy. Told people about the car and that it ran 13.40 @ 107 on 2 1/2" pressbent exhaust stock ic piping no fuel tuning at all (no fuel computer at all) with a 2.50 60 ft. He proceeded to say he remembers the car at import day, and then said there were only 2 fwds that ran 13's jeromy's car not one of them. Now how are you going to tell me his car didnt run 13's. I BUILT THE MOTOR, (eagle rods, wiseco pistons) with Jeromy, and he beat me first round! ( hey if yor going to get beat, atleast its by one of your own bullets ;) ) So clearly I rember what it ran. Ive been seriously diplomatic on several occasions on certain posts about dsms and what/who/where to do. If I wanted to pick a fight, promote myself, or whatever I would of said you should take your pistons and rods to !@#$%^ the shop I work at, Or hey I can do it at my own shop that I am not calling a shop yet. I have people that support me also, but I tell people I dont want them to be on here constantly pushing me or my skills, because I dont want any of them to look like cronies, or cronies of cronies like some people do. Once again ive made a general statement that people that it wasnt even directed to have taken offense to. So scot, hope you realize that I wasnt flaming anybody namely you, just clearing things up for the guy. Flaming just isnt my style... unless it is directed at me first and then... 9secondtalon 12-22-2003, 04:51 PM I wasn't talking about you picking a fight with me. The way you phrased your sentence could have been taken different ways and I didn't want this to become a fight thread like most of them on this forum turn into. BoostedITR41 12-22-2003, 04:52 PM not to be a dick but why would you waste your time with eagle rods on a DSM? the 1G "big" rods hold just as much power. also what turbo did this guy use to hit a mid 13 on a 2.5 60ft in a FWD? 9secondtalon 12-22-2003, 05:00 PM I THINK its a 16G, could be wrong though. Don't know which size either. JIMI B 12-22-2003, 05:03 PM but why not overbore and get the slight difference in displacment. if you are using a huge turbo that can help. if you go with those stupid 16g, 20g set ups it won't matter I am talking about a real mans turbo....lol Xtra displacement does help, although in this case we are talking very minimal. But I guess I was thinking in perspective of race motors that are going to get freshened up. It is always better to stay smaller bore, so it leaves you room for the next freshen up. Eventually after a couple of freshen ups or rebuilds you want have enough room and you will be left with a block that is a dead player. Also he has pistons already so I didnt want him to be discouraged. Just wanted to let him know he may have options. And it would be cheaper to hone than bore and hone. I dont know what his budget is? Doesnt matter we dont even know what else he is doing and he didnt ask for that input. JIMI B 12-22-2003, 05:18 PM not to be a dick but why would you waste your time with eagle rods on a DSM? the 1G "big" rods hold just as much power. also what turbo did this guy use to hit a mid 13 on a 2.5 60ft in a FWD? Yeah I hear people say that on "forums", but I wanna see the muther fucker that has actually broke an eagle rod in a dsm. Not spun a bearing and took a rod out, straight up snapped a rod from making too much horsepower. Oh yeah thats it, if its cheaper it must not be as good  not saying that to you BoostedITR41, but that is the general consensus from people in the import community. The turbo is a big 16g 9secondtalon 12-22-2003, 07:04 PM I broke a flywheel in 4 pieces once, does that count? BoostedITR41 12-22-2003, 08:13 PM ohh no offense taken to your statement. I personally like eagle rods(goin in my turbo honda motor), but if you can use factory parts and them hold just as well why not. as long as you get the ARP bolts on the eagles most of them end up being ok. the biggest complaint is the rod bolts stretching. that is a decent time for a big 16G edit: if you want to check out our FWD DSM at our shop go to www.hybridynamics.com and go to our rides Turbo Drunk 12-23-2003, 01:10 AM that is a decent time for a big 16G If all i break is mid 13's next track season I'm setting the car on fire JIMI B 12-23-2003, 02:00 AM ohh no offense taken to your statement. And know one has been able to tell me any instances when someone has snapped one. I just find it hard to beleive is all. However after I posted today, I was thinking about fasteners. But they use arp correct? Oh well I guess I am going to find out myself. Thats a nice fwd. My buddy was set on buying an awd and putting all of his parts on with a bigger turbo setup, but now he wants to stay fwd. I am building a rwd mitsu, but im partner in it with a freind, and he wants to finish his twin turbo z first now. So it looks like I am going to throw my motor in a fwd. I think that is going to be the best bet with all the rules in the sanctioning bodies now. I have some one off suspension components in design now for fwd mitus, and I think I can get them to 60ft the same as an awd with 1/3 of the parts to break. Main reason to go fwd is to beable to run nhra. There is no class for my 10.5 tire rwd mitsu. I would have to run with complete back have cars with 4 links. Kind of funny, there are a couple rules in import sanctioning bodies that are there because of my old partner and I. JIMI B 12-23-2003, 02:04 AM If all i break is mid 13's next track season I'm setting the car on fire Well since most likely that will happen, you can just give your car to me first :D FWD sucks with pretty much all stock suspension. My driver is stock except for boost turned to 20 psi, I ported the 14b, (not even to 7cm) and a walbro 255, and it spins all the way thru 2nd. BoostedITR41 12-23-2003, 03:40 AM put slicks on the FWD and you will be good. the FWD on our page does 2.2 60fts on drag radials and a LSD with about 350whp. he has upgraded his turbo and is getting it back together for next season and it will be ready for most of the season including the shootout. as for fasteners. I don't know about DSM's but the basic eagle rods have just shit rod bolts for honda's. it is only like 350 or so with upgraded ARP bolts though. I also totally understand about your theory with the FWD and NHRA. NHRA is by far the most fair of sanctioning bodies. hence the reason everyone says leslie durst is the fastest all motor honda cause erik runs NDRA and the weight restrictions aren't there. NHRA has lasted the longest for a reason. Turbo Drunk 12-23-2003, 06:07 AM I'm serious, I ran 14.3 @99 with stock suspension 2.5 60ft. Next season i will have huge fmic, whole new suspension, fuel pump, regulator, slicks(thanks scot), and if i dont break mid twelves i will set the car on fire  redline_dreamz 12-23-2003, 06:30 AM whats wrong with a 20G??? 680cfm at bar seems pretty respectable to me. Of course you could get some monster thing that wouldnt spool untill 6 or 7 thousand but hey, what ever floats your boat. I dont know how you 4g63 guys do it. I think ive been spoiled on 2.4L too long because i cant even imagine trying to spool like a 62-1 on only 2.0L... its going to be hard enough with 2.7! 9secondtalon 12-23-2003, 10:05 AM I ran a 11.29@124mph on a BR 20G. So I would say nothings wrong with it. BoostedITR41 12-23-2003, 03:58 PM actually, get a FP 3065, FP 3052, GT14, etc you will have spool 200RPM higher than a big 16G redline_dreamz 12-23-2003, 05:07 PM I ran a 11.29@124mph on a BR 20G. So I would say nothings wrong with it. Was that your first run at import day??? I have that one on tape of you blowing it that day. Yea, i dunno why peeps are complaining about the 20G... its pretty mean in my book. BoostedITR41 12-23-2003, 06:46 PM are you talking about a SBR 20G? If so I know mike that owns slowboy. very cool guy and has some mean ass turbos up there. I hope to talk to him about a upgraded turbo next summer on my ITR. I have a TD05H-18G now and it will be maxed out early next spring so I am looking for a full race type turbo. I want a street car but a big turbo. 9secondtalon 12-23-2003, 10:13 PM I was talking about a Buschur Racing 20G. Sorry for the confusion. My first run at import day was a 11.7. It was on a BR580 (buschur turbo again). The 20G pass was from 2 years ago at Edgewater, when the car exploded. JIMI B 12-24-2003, 12:51 AM put slicks on the FWD and you will be good. the FWD on our page does 2.2 60fts on drag radials and a LSD with about 350whp. he has upgraded his turbo and is getting it back together for next season and it will be ready for most of the season including the shootout. as for fasteners. NHRA has lasted the longest for a reason. Well honestly I dont like nhra that much, atleast not rules wise. My favorite sanctioning body is IDRC. I definately think IDRC has better rules. Thats just my opinion, probably because I cant run my combination that is unbeatable like I want. There is 2 reasons why I want to run NHRA. One is personal and less significant. I want to win a wally b4 my dad... On my own. And the most important is thats where the money is, not necessarily payouts but they draw more sponsorship BoostedITR41 12-24-2003, 02:47 AM I should have known most people in ohio I have ever talked to run a buschur turbo...lol JIMI B 12-24-2003, 04:22 AM I should have known most people in ohio I have ever talked to run a buschur turbo...lol Hey whats wrong with wanting to win races? BoostedITR41 12-24-2003, 04:43 AM I mean you must have liked buschur. most people I talk to don't like his prices or his customer service. also, I personally like FP for turbos. they are the best I have seen so far JIMI B 12-24-2003, 02:58 PM I mean you must have liked buschur. most people I talk to don't like his prices or his customer service. also, I personally like FP for turbos. they are the best I have seen so far Well he sponsors 9secondtalon, and he used to sponsor a good buddy of mine, until he sold the Conquest back to him. But we were both long time customers of his b4 the racing venture. Ive allways thought his prices were pretty good... but now there are so many dsm shops, and they keep underbidding eachother, its kind of hard to gain perspective. Customer service... Dave doesnt like dealing with tools. So most likely if someone has had a bad experience with Dave, he probably thought that person was a tool. But thats why you will rarely get him on the phone I guess. But I respect anyone that will shoot you straight at the risk of sounding like a dick. Ive grown up around racing, and racing bussiness all of my life and I find that those are the kind of people I like to do bussiness with. I remember when my freind Aaron was trying to buy a sheet metal intake for his car when it was not a far cry from stock, Dave was like thats the stupidist thing you could do. Most people would of just sold him the intake. Suppose Im just loyal.. 9secondtalon 12-24-2003, 04:50 PM Jim is right on how Dave will tell you straight. We have had our rounds with each other BUT have always gotten over it. I have been loyal to them ever since day one. Dave owes that more to Tym than to himself though. As for the Buschur racing prices, some of them are high. Consider the quality of the parts made by them compared to other shops. For a while they didn't have good PR on the phone due to a few workers who hated answering phone calls. Those people have since moved on and the shop has Jerrod & Tym back on the phones. Sorry if you have had a bad experience with them. Rob at FP makes good turbos also, but just shop around before you get your next one. BoostedITR41 12-24-2003, 06:50 PM ohh I agree about quality of buschars parts. his direct fire set up is the nicest I have seen for a DSM ever. as for PR and customer service I am just talking from my experience and experience of friends, but if you had good experiences more power too you....you just have to stick with who you like and get a long with JIMI B 12-24-2003, 10:45 PM Jim is right on how Dave will tell you straight.
