Need some LS1 Piston & Ring help
Anyone on here have a good eye for piston and ring problems? I have my LS1 torn down and the pistons removed. I need another pair of eyes on looking at the rings and cylinder walls to determine the reason for blowby on cylinders one and seven. I will provide beer if anyone is willing to stop by and give me a quick hand. Thanks, guys.

Typicaly the blowby is from a wear of the friction material on the piston skirts and then having too much side clearance and you will get pisotn slap with the LS1's. Is there any streaks that are up and down the cylinder walls? scuffing on the sides of the pistons? Any hone marks left on the cylinder walls?

Both piston 1 and 7 have scuffing on the sides of the pistons and there are vertical streaks on both cylinder walls.

sounds like your shit is fucked lol.

if it was so bad for it to smoke, your prolly stuck getting the block resleeved(not worth the money) or getting a new block.

I can get my hands on a 6500 mile LS1 out of a 01 SS for a decent price.

take some pics and post them up.

There was no smoke, but it was bad enough blow-by to clog the catalyst solid. I already have a new motor in the car, but I am in a legal dispute with the dealership that sold the car to me to reimburse me for the new engine. (I can't go into details on that part until the case is settled.) I will get some pics up soon.

Looks like a case of piston slap. Do a google search and you'll see pictures all over the place just like you describe. scratches up and down the sides of the cylinder and scuff marks on the pistons skirts.

Depends on how deep the scaring is. It doesn't take much to see the smoke out the exhaust and still have enough material in the cylinder to bore and hone. I know of two motor that BES rebuilt and both motors smoked before they were rebuilt. Both blocks were bored and honed and are just fine now.

I can't really do anything with the motor until the court case is settled. Once it is done, though I might have a sweet rebuilt LS1 on the market!

BTW, the damn thing only had 38k miles on it. >:(

Like I said, do a google search and you should find a lot of ammo for your court case....
