I am trying to put a cold air intake on my 97 neon well i have to go under the battery tray but on problem the supports for the tray can't be cut  also with the dohc engine i have it is hard to have a full size air filter in that spot instead i went with the vortex from apc. that work its just the point about the battery tray. Any help?

do you go to Neons.org (www.neons.org) ?
the battery tray has to be modified to fit the CAI. alot of 1st gen people forego the name brand cai and get an intake tube from a 3.0l Chrysler product.
anyway, check out the neons.org forum boards (www.neons.org/forums). there are several people there that can help you better than i can, because i have a second gen SOHC, which is different than yours. someone on there sella modified battery trays...

you dont plan on driving that in the rain, do you?
why dont u just keep it a ram air it dosnt make a huge diffrence

blupastu408w: yes i do
Levi: Because the ram air goes over the engine collecting warm air plus the air box sits on top the manifold

in that case, I wouldnt extend the air filter down *that* far, its sure to pick up lots of water.... the bottom of the filter shouldnt extend below the TOP of the radiator support.

on my friends 95 Dohc we put an Iceman cold air intake on it and we didnt have to modify the battery tray.....what type of intake is it?

it a do it yourself type thst why it a pain in the ass. I think i got it the battery tray needed cut back so i broke so pieces of it (just enough to still hold the battery) and hose fits perfect just need a extention. Oh and the reason i didn't buy one is too damn expense 100 dollars for a tube no way. I only spent $30.

That's because the Iceman comes with a different battery tray if I remember right. (I sandblasted one for Vincent Brick)
Donnie if I was you i would just go with the Short Ram and take the hit on the HP. If i would have had the Iceman on my car last night, it would not be runniong right now. Just my $.02.

Yeah the short ram may not give as much hp as that but I can guarantee that you will not be happy when you suck up water and your engine water locks, just take the loss on HP like I did, btw... I am the other red Neon in Ricegate that has the Daytona rims w/ black centercaps, I like your car dude!

Just cut a hole in your hood and stick a K&N right up through it. You'll get better air flow plus be different.

All in time with money. :) yo man next time you see me yell at me.
