View Full Version : Any SE-R people?

I decided to go a cheaper route in my pursuit of happiness, so I just bought a 93 SE-R .. I'm new to the SE-R stuff but have always liked them, and I'd like to see who on the boards has knowledge of them ... Right now I'd be completely content rocking it as a daily, but I've got some money I'd like to throw into some more mods so lemme know what you think would be a decent route to go
So far, mods include;
90K on an SR20DE, stock clutch/trans/lsd
CAI of some kind
XS Racing header
UR crank and wp pullies
Courtesy 2.5" SS midpipe
SS Autochrome axleback muffler
Red wire grounding kit
reground maf
ES motor mounts
255 Walbro fuel pump
KYB AGX Shocks
Hypercoil Gen2 Springs
Pulsar Wheels with 185/60/14 All Seasons
I realize there are many routes I could go .. but who all has experience with B13/B14 SE-R's and what did you have done to them?
I've done a small amount of research, but I'd like to get some opinions on where to go with the upgrades down the road ... I'd like to stay within about $1k for mods as of right now, and from what I've been hearing, I could probably find a decent t25 setup within that budget... Also I could go the JWT S3/S4 cam and/or NA route, though I think I'd have more fun with a basic turbo setup
Thanks for lookin, and for any input

why does it have a walbro 255 lmao. Easy thing would be a t25 set up, the NAs can handle that very well from what ive seen. Im sure some other ppl on here can elaborate. Mine was always NA with no desire to see boost, so i didnt investigate into the fwd turbo sr game too much.
slownx and jon (fas-ter or some BS) on here know whats up with them.

Who knows about the 255 Walbro, maybe the OEM one went sour and one of the previous owners thought it'd be worth the upgrade or something

If it were me I would enhance the car's strong suit and do some suspension mods. You could do springs shocks and sways or some Megan coilovers and a rear sway for $1k. That car was built to turn.
Did the car include the trophy for the ugliest wheels on earth?

x2, There was a guy who would run his SE-R at Scarlet last year and he turned in some nice times with mostly suspension mods.

The springs are the best you can get for the car... They allow for good suspension travel, don't lower it too much, and the spring rates were developed for the car through sr20forum.
If that's Jay's old car you have a good foundation... I know who's car it was before that too!
Actually, I agree with what Nick said - if its your daily, don't waste too much money on the aesthetics and purchase a rear sway, some adjustable struts, and a set of b14 wheels and your good to go.
They are stupid fun & cheap cars, and they last a long time with minor maintenance. The motors for them are cheap as hell as well..
If it were me, I would just rock it n/a. If you want to turbo it... imo, just go ahead an buy a bluebird/avenir/anessa/gti-r motor for it instead of adding a turbo kit... that's just me.

Ha it looks as if I overlooked the part where it says he already has springs and adjustable shocks doh! Yeah get an adjustable rear sway and those wheels/tires from Steve and it should be a fun car. Suspension mods make a car a lot more fun to drive than a bunch of power that you can't really use anyway.

you NEED to buy my JWT S4 intake cam! they are great for N/A and turbo. i'm rocking a set in my NX....
PM me. i'll knock a bit off the price since you're local.
and 93/94 are definitely the best years for the SE-R. looks like you've got yourself a good starting point.

this car is great as a dd now. i used it maninly used it for autocrossing, hence the suspension parts. put some nice wheels on, and you got yourself a great dd. i sometimes wish i had the car back, great shape with no rust, hard to find these days.

wheels will have to have the centerbore bigger. sentras use a 59.1 bore, i believe the miatas are around 56 bore.

You can increase the bore in about 5 mins if you know anyone with access to a machine shop, or you can walk them down to the UC machine shop, tell them you are a ME student and they will show you how to do it.

These are neat cars. I wanted to do the GTI-R turbo setup on my B14, but the craptastic beam suspension drove me to just use it for a beater until it died. The DE is not much different than the DET and in non-RR form, can handle a lot of power from what I recall.
I think the DET has 1 less point in compression, oil squirters, and sodium-filled valves.

Kyle, glad you got such a clean car.
After what Jay and Ameen said, I'm starting to think this is one of my old SE-Rs (I sold one to Jay a couple years ago). If so, you lucked out; it was the cleanest B13 I've ever seen (certainly one of the cleanest in the area if not the continent of North America) and of the three SE-Rs I've owned, its engine pulled the hardest.
Good luck man - keep us posted on developments.

nope, this is the one i picked up in georgia about 4 years ago. it was my first se-r. me and my bro swapped out the engine with a jdm one cause it threw a rod about an hour after i picked it up. when i replaced the engine, i replaced all maintenance parts before putting it in the car. i wanted to make sure this engine will last a long time.
the one i bought of you kent, my uncle has that and is still using it for dd. if he ever wants to sell it, im gonna get it back :)

I only have driven it about 2 hours back from picking it up, but it rode reeeeally well, pulled decent (I say decent because IDK what to compare it to), didn't make any noises and just all around felt good to drive... I'm gonna try clean it up either tuesday or wednesday and I may throw some more pics up
Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions guys ... I was half expecting to be greeted with the occasional "RICER!" comment, but truth-be-told, I'm pretty content with my choice for my new vehicle ... cheap, fun and clean is what I was looking for

Ah so, that's cool either way. Sounds like a great car.
If your uncle sells, you know I'm next in line after you :D
Kyle, if no one said so yet, I recommend upgrading the headlights/grille to Tsuru parts. WAY better headlights, and many folks think they're better looking as well.

So one problem i noticed with my car, and dunno what it could be....
-When I picked it up, the guy said the tach would work about half the times he started the car. I went about a week without it working, and while I was driving to Dayton last night it magically started working like a charm, and has been ever since. I was thinking it could be something to do with the connection with the cluster, but now I think it may be something else. Anyone have suggestions what I should look at before I start just digging into it whenever it goes out next time?
